Summer time in 1994, right before entering high school, I was invited to tag along on a road trip through the canyon that completely changed my life.  Tia Edna is a traveler and this particular summer she wanted to revisit the beauties in Arizona, Nevada, and Utah. At this time, the furthest I’ve been in this country was Las Vegas so I was ready to see what else is out there.  This particular trip we visited Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Las Vegas, and visited the Colorado River. This trip is when I fell in love with Nature, I still have very vivid memories from this trip and I vowed to someday take my own family there someday. Our close to home but far away enough from the city go to Spot FOSTER RESIDENCE CAMPGROUND When you live in Los Angeles but you crave the woodsy camping feeling but you don’t want to drive 5 plus hours to get there, Foster Residence Campground can be your go to. Located in Ventura County, we have been here multiple times through the years and we keep coming back because it is a lovely place. With only 16 sites total, the first 10 sites have full hookups at $50 a night. The other 6 sites are for your true camping experience at $28 a night. This park has a camp host on site so you can ask for help if needed. We love that this park gives you plenty of space between sites so it allows you to feel like you are there alone but yet, you have that comfort to…

South Carlsbad State Beach If you are looking for the beach camping experience but you are not a fan or the sand in your toes, this place is the winner! With 200 sites to choose from, this place is lively and amazing. South Carlsbad is a very well run campground with several camp hosts, a camp store, a restaurant with live music, one main paved road where locals and campers walk, ride, run along regularly, this place has all the bells and whistles you would want from a camping experience.  The beach is down an enormous amount of stairs so it is definitely not for the faint at heart but it sure is beautiful if you can make it down there.
